Gabrielle Union was pretty in blue today as she hit up “The View” to promote tomorrow night’s big season finale of “Being Mary Jane”.  And she opened up about her lawsuit against her former employer after a horrific rape incident, plus why she hates being “the victim.”

Check it inside, plus Lupita Nyong’o keeping it gorgeous–yet mum about her Oscar dress–on “GMA” this AM….

While chatting up the ladies of “The View” today, and after showing off her massive rock of an engagement ring, Dwyane Wade‘s fiancee showed why she’s a strong survivor.

Gabrielle Union revealed that after being raped at gunpoint at the age of 19 while at work, she took action afterwards that made her feel like she had taken the power back.

She sued Payless, her then-employer, for being negligent in providing a safe environment.  Gabby also urged parents to take an active interest in the type of establishment their teens and young adults are working at, often late at night as well.

And she spoke some powerful words about not being a victim after the incident, even though everyone wanted to treat her as such:

“I got sick of people letting me off the hook. Being a victim is so comfortable. People give you attention, people are nurturing, they’re basically what you’ve wanted your whole life without something bad happening. So, when something catastrophic happens, everyone rallies around you. You’re getting all the attention, love and support you’ve always wanted. But it’s not for something positive. I hated that. I hated feeling like a victim. I hated the cloak of victimhood.”

She continued:

“They were going to allow me to be a victim and not success and not achieve any of my goals and not step outside the box.  I want to embrace being a survivor. Because that’s who I am. I wasn’t raised to be coddled. I was raised to be an independent woman, standing on my own two feet.”

The 2-hour finale of “Being Mary Jane” goes down Tuesday night on BET at 9pm.

The 12 Years A Slave star chopped it up with Robin Roberts about being curious & ready about her future, not scared, and no one could squeeze out a hint about who the red carpet darling will be donning at the Oscars this Sunday.

Save the date because April 26 comes the latest project The Coldest. Skilla Baby is poised for the announcement by unveiling a brand new single Free Big Meech. Produced by MIA JayC and Lee Choppn, this single hinges on tense synths and punchy 808s, while Skilla Baby unleashes a vital verbal flurry. Paving a lane to the forefront of the game at high-speed, rising Detroit rapper spoke on the project:

I took my time to put this project together… Sometimes, I feel like people try to place me in a box. The pressure of being a new artist, being successful, staying disciplined, and still clocking into the studio is very strenuous. But fun at the same time. As an artist, I’m known as the “Girl’s guy”. But I’ll never forget I come from the streets. As a real person, I feel so many emotions (mad, sad, happy, anxious, etc.). I say that to say, sorry for the wait but I wanted to put everything I feel into one project. Grab your coats…

Next up, the Vultures Eat The Most Tour takes him across the country on his most extensive jaunt yet. He also joins forces with New Orleans heavy-hitter Rob49 to co-headline the tour with tickets available here. This year is gearing up to be the coldest yet so pre-order your copy of the project here. It’s harder to wake up when you have mundane ish to do. Unveiling a brand new music video, Young France recruits UK Indie sensation Master Peace for huge new track Wake Up. Life becomes easier when you’re on the path to becoming a rockstar. The music video, shot in the UK, follows Young Franco and Master Peace individually, through a first-person lens as they undertake “mundane” daily activities until they then meet and begin to enjoy the iconic streets and taxis of London together. Franco spoke on the track:

Working with Master Peace has been an amazing experience. I found out about his project via his record “Eyes on You” and have wanted to work with him since that moment. I was writing a bunch of tracks in 2020. One of them being an early version of Wake Up, which I wrote with Elliot from Delta Riggs. I connected with Master Peace online and once I got to London last year, we smashed this in a couple of hours. His new record is fantastic and I’m super excited how this one turned out. Special mention to Danio from Husky Loops for some added production too.

Young Franco has started 2024 off with a bang, where he teamed up with UK rapper S1mba for the release of the funk laid hip hop track HITA. Wake Up follows a busy year of touring already, where he has done a sold out run of Europe with a string of sold-out shows in the USA. Young Franco has accumulated over 200 million streams and plans to continue to put Astralwerks Records on the map. Stream your copy of the single here and watch the dreamlike visual below.
