“Just Call Them Niggers,” Baltimore City Councilman Carl Stokes Tells CNN Anchor
It’s not a secret that the media sometimes uses the word “thug” in place of another word they REALLY want to use when they’re referring to Black people who aren’t acting the way they believe they should act.
So when in an interview with Baltimore City Councilman Carl Stokes, CNN host Erin Burnett tried to defend the use of the word used by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and President Obama in reference to Black Baltimore teenagers who are protesting over the death of Freddie Gray, Stokes kept it all the way real, saying to Burnett “Just call them niggers.”
Stokes pointed out that the reason why we shouldn’t call the teens “thugs” is because they are children.
“Of course it’s not the right word to call our children thugs. These are children who have been set aside, marginalized who have not been engaged by us,” Stokes said.
“But how does that justify what they did?” Burnett interrupted. “I mean that’s a sense of right and wrong. They know it’s wrong to steal and burn down a CVS and an old person’s home, I mean, come on.”
That’s when Stokes, clearly fed up, hit Burnett with this:
“Come on? So calling them thugs? Just call them niggers. Just call them niggers. No. We don’t have to call them by names such as that. We don’t have to do that.”
Not surprisingly, Burnett stood her ground, later promising that she “would hope that [she] would call [her] son a thug if he did such a thing.”
Of course she would.

It’s harder to wake up when you have mundane ish to do. Unveiling a brand new music video, Young France recruits UK Indie sensation Master Peace for huge new track Wake Up. Life becomes easier when you’re on the path to becoming a rockstar. The music video, shot in the UK, follows Young Franco and Master Peace individually, through a first-person lens as they undertake “mundane” daily activities until they then meet and begin to enjoy the iconic streets and taxis of London together. Franco spoke on the track:
Working with Master Peace has been an amazing experience. I found out about his project via his record “Eyes on You” and have wanted to work with him since that moment. I was writing a bunch of tracks in 2020. One of them being an early version of Wake Up, which I wrote with Elliot from Delta Riggs. I connected with Master Peace online and once I got to London last year, we smashed this in a couple of hours. His new record is fantastic and I’m super excited how this one turned out. Special mention to Danio from Husky Loops for some added production too.
