Today Shockoe Bottom is a cultural hot spot in RVA: restaurants, clubs, bars, you name it… But yesterday it was the largest slave-trading district in America, only second to New Orleans. This is a place where history coexists with modernity. But there are those who think history belongs only in books… And some who want to preserve our right to see it… Which are you? #SaveShockoe
In recent Lupita news, the Kenyan beauty has been using her social media presence as a platform to support the preservation of one of the biggest and most notorious slave markets in the United States, Shockoe Bottom, located in Richmond, Va.
There has been some controversy since it was annouced that Shockoe Bottom would be the new location for a minor-league baseball stadium. Many have complained that the new stadium will destroy the cultural hot spot and Lupita is one of them.
In an Instagram post she wrote, “Today Shockoe Bottom is a cultural hot spot in RVA: restaurants, clubs, bars, you name it… But yesterday it was the largest slave-trading district in America, only second to New Orleans. The Yale University graduate is currently filming for her first role since winning her Oscar (yes, we know she starred in Non-Stop but that was before she won her Oscar). She will be starring in the upcoming highly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII. So, she snapped a fun pic with a Star Wars action figure with the caption, “Geeking out! #SWVII” Funny.
Back on this side of the pond….
“Nonfiction” singer Ne-Yo brought his girlfriend Crystal Renay along with him on his “House of Blues” tour that stopped at the House of Blues Sunset Strip in West Hollywood last night.
After his performance, the couple made their way to downtown L.A. to party it up with radio host Big Boy at a bash he threw at the Congo Room.
Notorious actress/singer Antonique Smith was also in the mix. It appears she’s concentrating more on her music career nowadays. The songtress shot a video recently for her track “Hold Up Wait A Minute”, starring the sexy Lance Gross and directed by Larenz Tate (who recently reunited with Don Cheadle on “House of Lies”).
And radio host Big Boy posted up outside before heading to the party. Fun times.

In the bustling streets of Southeast, Washington DC, rapper Kazon’s latest offering, “My Brother,” emerges as a symphony of redemption and advocacy, resonating with audiences far and wide.
Kazon’s path to musical stardom has been fraught with obstacles, from brushes with the law to a brush with death that left him scarred but unbroken. Through it all, he credits his resilience to the belief that every setback is an opportunity for growth.
With “My Brother,” Kazon takes on the role of a lyrical mentor, offering guidance and solace to Black youth grappling with violence and systemic oppression. Through heartfelt verses and melodic refrains, he shares his own journey of redemption, using his past mistakes as a catalyst for change.
At its core, “My Brother” is a call to action—a plea for unity, love, and advocacy within the Black community. Kazon’s harmonious tale serves as a reminder that through solidarity and advocacy, we can effect real change and pave the way for a brighter future.
As the final notes of “My Brother” fade into the ether, Kazon’s message lingers: every trial is a testament to our strength, and every mistake is a chance to do better. Through his music, he invites us to join him in a journey of redemption and advocacy—one that holds the promise of a more just and equitable world for all.
