Unlike your favorite matte and creamy lipsticks, newly launched liquid lipstick products are definitely receiving a new found popularity, being that they deliver both beautiful color and undeniable staying power. 

In comparison to most glosses and tinted lip balms, liquid lipsticks prove to be a high powered overachiever, as it’s 3-in-1 appeal makes it ideal for a gorgeous, yet intense pucker.

“Liquid lipstick is a great 3-in-1 product,” explains Vanessa Ungaro, master makeup artist at LAUREN + VANESSA. “Products like these glide on like a gloss, have intense pigment like a lipstick, and remain budge-proof like a stain.”

But to get the most out of products like these, it’s always best to prep your lips first before wearing long wear colors. For starters, be sure to exfoliate your lips, as most lip scrubs help achieve smoother color, while guaranteeing a flake-free pucker.

“It’s important to prep your lips so they won’t look cracked or chapped,” says Ungaro. “Be sure to exfoliate with a lip scrub so your lips are soft and smooth.”

Aside from using skin softening lip scrubs, Ungaro recommend enlisting the help of a moisturizing lip primer before actual product application, as liquid lipsticks tend to dry out the lips fast.

“Even though most formulas are becoming better and more moisturizing, continued use of a liquid lipstick can be very drying,” she says. “To ensure your lips stay hydrated, use a lip primer.”

Once it comes time for product application though, experts like Ungaro suggest using a lip brush to apply on your product, being that tools like these guarantee flawless and even application.

“Take your brush and swipe it over the applicator wand, getting enough product onto the brush to outline your lips,”states Ungaro. “When you apply, first start with cupid’s bow area, then work from the outer corners into the middle of your lips.”
