Cara Delevingne to Weight Critics: ‘Don’t Hire Me’

Published

on

Cara Delevingne isn’t like most supermodels. Yes, she’s drop-dead gorgeous and can command a catwalk, but she doesn’t want to be known as just another “pretty face” on the runway. She wants to carve her own career path on her own terms.

The 22-year-old star, who fronts major campaign ads for high-fashion labels including Chanel, Burberry, Mulberry (she even designed her own line of handbags for the brand), Topshop, DKNY and more, has her heart set on a new adventure in her career: acting. But the road to the big screen has been a bumpy one, she confessed in a recent interview with WSJ. magazine.

“I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. Everyone said, ‘You’re just a model,’” she told the mag. “Once I had my mind set that I was going to do this modeling thing, I really wanted to beat it, if that makes sense. Win it.”

After guidance and pep talk from her close friend Rihanna, (who told her, “Everything happens for a reason. You are going to call me back up in a week or two, and you are going to say to me, ‘You are right.’”), things began to fall into place for Delevingne. She landed the lead role in Paper Towns, a film based on John Green’s novel, which hits theaters July 24.

As for her modeling career, Delevingne explained it’s very frustrating and at times disheartening to work in an industry that’s all about your appearance. “It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, ‘So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight,’” she said. “It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”

But above all else, no matter what she ends up doing — whether that be modeling, acting or singing (remember when her and Pharrell collaborated on a beautiful duet in Karl Lagerfeld’s Reincarnation?) — she wants to do it right. “I want to prove that you can be anything you want to be,” she said. “I love working, and I love what I do. If I f— it up now, it’s all my fault.”

In the bustling streets of Southeast, Washington DC, rapper Kazon’s latest offering, “My Brother,” emerges as a symphony of redemption and advocacy, resonating with audiences far and wide.

Kazon’s path to musical stardom has been fraught with obstacles, from brushes with the law to a brush with death that left him scarred but unbroken. Through it all, he credits his resilience to the belief that every setback is an opportunity for growth.

With “My Brother,” Kazon takes on the role of a lyrical mentor, offering guidance and solace to Black youth grappling with violence and systemic oppression. Through heartfelt verses and melodic refrains, he shares his own journey of redemption, using his past mistakes as a catalyst for change.

At its core, “My Brother” is a call to action—a plea for unity, love, and advocacy within the Black community. Kazon’s harmonious tale serves as a reminder that through solidarity and advocacy, we can effect real change and pave the way for a brighter future.

As the final notes of “My Brother” fade into the ether, Kazon’s message lingers: every trial is a testament to our strength, and every mistake is a chance to do better.
