Kim Kardashian: When Kanye First Made Over My Closet, I Cried

Published

on

By now, the story of Kanye West completely redoing Kim Kardashian’s closet is the stuff fairy tales are made of (what, you haven’t heard that classic “When Prince Charming Threw Away All of the Princess’s Shoes and Told Her to Start Again?”), but years after the first purge — with her husband’s influence on her style more obvious than ever — Kardashian admits on Live With Kelly & Michael that she wasn’t initially as willing of a makeover recipient as West might have expected.

“They put everything that he thought wasn’t ‘cool enough’ in a pile, and I walked in and it was like a pile to the ceiling of shoes,” she says. “All my amazing shoes that I loved, and I started crying. I was like, ‘I can’t get rid of this stuff, your stylist has no idea what she’s talking about.’ So I put it all in another room, and I was like, ‘I’ll trust your opinion, but I’m not getting rid of my stuff. Let me see what you’re really talking about.’”

Of course, West had some tricks up his (designer) sleeve. “Then I walk into my room, and there’s an entire room filled with all new clothes,” she continues. “All the stuff he wanted to fill back up my closet with. It was, like, really cool new designer stuff — I hadn’t even heard of some of these designers before. And it really helped me fall in love with fashion. I eventually did get rid of most of that stuff, and my style has evolved and changed. But I couldn’t see it at that time.”

These days, of course, the duo is more likely to go out in matching plunging tops or any one of a number of lookalike ensembles, and Kardashian’s formerly Kolorful Kloset has been streamlined to contain mostly neutrals. But that doesn’t mean that West isn’t still offering his advice on everything from the name of her coffee table book (Selfish, for the uninitiated) to the outfit she wore that morning.

“I had on this white Balmain pantsuit [this morning]. He was like, No, no, no, I think you just be a little bit more simple today — and totally changed my outfit right before I was walking out,” she says. She does draw the line somewhere, however: “Then he was like, Oh, I love your hair down! And I was like, No, no, no. Ponytail. You don’t get that much — you get one thing, outfit or glam!”

Save the date because April 26 comes the latest project The Coldest. Skilla Baby is poised for the announcement by unveiling a brand new single Free Big Meech. Produced by MIA JayC and Lee Choppn, this single hinges on tense synths and punchy 808s, while Skilla Baby unleashes a vital verbal flurry. Paving a lane to the forefront of the game at high-speed, rising Detroit rapper spoke on the project:

I took my time to put this project together… Sometimes, I feel like people try to place me in a box. The pressure of being a new artist, being successful, staying disciplined, and still clocking into the studio is very strenuous. But fun at the same time. As an artist, I’m known as the “Girl’s guy”. But I’ll never forget I come from the streets. As a real person, I feel so many emotions (mad, sad, happy, anxious, etc.). I say that to say, sorry for the wait but I wanted to put everything I feel into one project. Grab your coats…

Next up, the Vultures Eat The Most Tour takes him across the country on his most extensive jaunt yet. He also joins forces with New Orleans heavy-hitter Rob49 to co-headline the tour with tickets available here. This year is gearing up to be the coldest yet so pre-order your copy of the project here. It’s harder to wake up when you have mundane ish to do. Unveiling a brand new music video, Young France recruits UK Indie sensation Master Peace for huge new track Wake Up. Life becomes easier when you’re on the path to becoming a rockstar. The music video, shot in the UK, follows Young Franco and Master Peace individually, through a first-person lens as they undertake “mundane” daily activities until they then meet and begin to enjoy the iconic streets and taxis of London together. Franco spoke on the track:

Working with Master Peace has been an amazing experience. I found out about his project via his record “Eyes on You” and have wanted to work with him since that moment. I was writing a bunch of tracks in 2020. One of them being an early version of Wake Up, which I wrote with Elliot from Delta Riggs. I connected with Master Peace online and once I got to London last year, we smashed this in a couple of hours. His new record is fantastic and I’m super excited how this one turned out. Special mention to Danio from Husky Loops for some added production too.

Young Franco has started 2024 off with a bang, where he teamed up with UK rapper S1mba for the release of the funk laid hip hop track HITA. Wake Up follows a busy year of touring already, where he has done a sold out run of Europe with a string of sold-out shows in the USA. Young Franco has accumulated over 200 million streams and plans to continue to put Astralwerks Records on the map. Stream your copy of the single here and watch the dreamlike visual below.
