Look of the Week: Elisabeth Moss at the Queen of Earth Premiere

We’re constantly updating our “Last Night’s Look” gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.

While summer might be the perfect time of year to break out your bolder lipstick shades (like, hot pink, coral and orange), Elisabeth Moss is here (at the premiere of her new film, Queen of Earth) to remind you that a shimmery nude works too — and really well. Since finding the perfect shade isn’t as easy as you’d expect, we reached out to the actress’s go-to makeup guru, Kristin Hilton, for tips on choosing your nude!

Moss’s makeup pro says she decided to skip the hot hues this time around for a much more toned-down nude — something she’s been “dying” to try with the star since they began working together six months ago.

“Normally when working with Elisabeth, she loves to wear a bold lip, but for [this] premiere we decided to stray away from her usual look,” Hilton tells PEOPLE. “[Elisabeth] was wearing a beautiful, ornate Oscar de la Renta dress and hot pink shoes, so I felt like we had to play up her eyes, since I didn’t want to do a lip and have it compete with her bright heels. Plus, it’s always fun to try to experiment with a new look!”

Hilton’s shade of choice? A drugstore favorite: NYX Matte Lipstick in Pale Pink.

“I love the look of a soft baby pink lip against subtle shading and a sharp black liner,” she says. (Hilton slightly contoured Moss’s skin with NARS Matte Multiple in Vientiane and created a bold, graphic eye with NARS Larger-Than-Life-Longwear Eyeliner in black.)

But not every nude works for every person, says Hilton, who recommends selecting a shade that best pairs with your skin tone.

“When choosing a nude lipstick, keep your complexion in mind,” she says. “If you have a fair, pale complexion think pink; for olive skin tones peachier colors look best; for darker skin, berry tones and peach look the best.”

She adds how important it is to apply your new nude to smooth, soft lips for the best effect: “The lipstick shouldn’t wash you out, and you should always make sure to put a nude lip on hydrated, soft lips to avoid it grabbing on dry cracks.” So now what’s stopping you from going nude this summer?

Save the date because April 26 comes the latest project The Coldest. Skilla Baby is poised for the announcement by unveiling a brand new single Free Big Meech. Produced by MIA JayC and Lee Choppn, this single hinges on tense synths and punchy 808s, while Skilla Baby unleashes a vital verbal flurry. Paving a lane to the forefront of the game at high-speed, rising Detroit rapper spoke on the project:

I took my time to put this project together… Sometimes, I feel like people try to place me in a box. The pressure of being a new artist, being successful, staying disciplined, and still clocking into the studio is very strenuous. But fun at the same time. As an artist, I’m known as the “Girl’s guy”. But I’ll never forget I come from the streets. As a real person, I feel so many emotions (mad, sad, happy, anxious, etc.). I say that to say, sorry for the wait but I wanted to put everything I feel into one project. Grab your coats…

“Wake Up” With Young Franco & Master Peace

It’s harder to wake up when you have mundane ish to do. Unveiling a brand new music video, Young France recruits UK Indie sensation Master Peace for huge new track Wake Up. Life becomes easier when you’re on the path to becoming a rockstar. The music video, shot in the UK, follows Young Franco and Master Peace individually, through a first-person lens as they undertake “mundane” daily activities until they then meet and begin to enjoy the iconic streets and taxis of London together. Franco spoke on the track:

Working with Master Peace has been an amazing experience. I found out about his project via his record “Eyes on You” and have wanted to work with him since that moment. I was writing a bunch of tracks in 2020. One of them being an early version of Wake Up, which I wrote with Elliot from Delta Riggs. I connected with Master Peace online and once I got to London last year, we smashed this in a couple of hours. His new record is fantastic and I’m super excited how this one turned out. Special mention to Danio from Husky Loops for some added production too.

Young Franco has started 2024 off with a bang, where he teamed up with UK rapper S1mba for the release of the funk laid hip hop track HITA. Wake Up follows a busy year of touring already, where he has done a sold out run of Europe with a string of sold-out shows in the USA.
