Nicole Richie: ‘Trends Limit My Personal Style’

Published

on

Nicole Richie is doing double-duty for her clothing collections — first stopping by an NYC Bloomingdale’s to promote her House of Harlow 1960 jewelry this weekend, then curating a bunch of (killer) picks for Piperlime, then jetting off to QVC HQ to tout her latest line for the home shopping retailer. And she found time to chat with us en route about what to expect from this upcoming collaboration.

Richie’s been working with QVC since 2012, visiting the brand’s mega-compound in Pennsylvania (which she once jokingly compared toJurassic Park, only without the dinosaurs”) to create each collection. But before she arrives, she’s created much of her work at home in L.A., where she finds a lot of inspiration. “Most of my design and creative work happens in my workspace. My office door opens up to the outdoors so it’s nice to have that,” she says. “I also always have music on — music takes me to my creative zone.”

She uses that creativity to create both collections — “My inspirations come from the same places, I just tend to keep who my customer is for each line in mind when designing every season,” she says — but once she’s got her looks in mind, “I meet with the QVC team a few times throughout the designing process; we check in often to make sure the collection is shaping up the way we intend it to. The collaboration process is seamless.”

In addition to her typical flowy dresses and cool jackets, in this collection, “I focused on designing layering pieces,” she says. “You can wear each piece a number of different ways. I love to mix and match pieces in my everyday life and this collection is a reflection of that.” Her favorites? “The tunic sweater. It’s a great, easy-to-wear staple piece,” Richie tells PEOPLE — and she shared a peek at another frontrunner on her Instagram, below.

Though Richie’s always on the forefront of street style, she says that there’s nothing she’s dying to try (or retire!) as we go into a new season. “I’m not a trend follower. I think they can be limiting as far as developing your own personal style,” she says. We wouldn’t expect less from the woman who made technicolor hair the style statement of 2014.

Tune in tonight at 5:00 p.m. EST to see all of Richie’s QVC designs, and tell us: Have you bought anything from her QVC collection? Will you?

Across 16 tracks, Skilla Baby levels up from every angle. Production credits on the project include the likes of Southside, MIA JayC, Ben Billions, TooDope, and more. Skilla teased the standout leading single Free Meech, then followed up with an official video. Paving away for the new body of work, Skilla spoke on the project:

I took my time to put this project together… Sometimes, I feel like people try to place me in a box. The pressure of being a new artist, being successful, staying disciplined, and still clocking into the studio is very strenuous, but fun at the same time. As an artist, I’m known as the ‘Girl’s guy.’ But I’ll never forget I come from the streets. As a real person, I feel so many emotions (mad, sad, happy, anxious, etc.). I say that to say, sorry for the wait but I wanted to put everything I feel into one project. Grab your coats…

Next up, the Vultures Eat The Most Tour takes him across the country on his most extensive jaunt yet. Headlining the tour with Rob49, you can see him featured on the single Mike Jack with G Herbo. Look for tickets near you here because you don’t want to miss the energy of a street demon taking no prisoners. Stream your copy of the project here and let us know your thoughts on the visuals below.
