Every season some color pops up in an attempt to become the hue of the moment: fuchsia, orange, blue, they never end. But every time, like Jessica Lam on American Horror Story: Coven, the jealous and ever present black sneaks up behind to reclaim its throne as the one and only ever-elegant, and ever-lasting pigment. That was under no debate at the amfAR Charity Gala last night.

A formal, “fashionable black tie” event, the amfAR charity has invested more than $366 million in programs in the fight against HIV. The charity has been around for 25 years and has helped in the prevention, treatment and crate of those already affected, even funding 3,300 grants to research teams to find out more about the infection. O the various fundraisers they hold, the amfAR Charity Gala is an appeal directly to the fashion industry during Milan Fashion Week and is a signature event for the organization.

This year, everyone from models to celebs slipped into little black numbers, whether they were full length gowns, short cocktail frocks or even pantsuits.  Check out a selection of the all-black red carpet in the following slides.
