Courtney Is Naturally Glam!

Were you a slow transitioner or a Big Chopper & why? (tell us your natural hair journey)
My journey is actually unique. I had a sew-in for about a year and a half and every time I got it redone, I was surprised about the texture of my hair. I fell in love with the wave. So one night I was taking my sew-in out I told my beautician just cut the perm out!

Had you always embraced your texture?
I love the texture of my hair. It’s different. I prefer my hair a little shorter because It gets more curly then wavy which I love!

How did family and friends react to your decision to go natural? How did they react to the new you? What was your response to them?
My family is very supportive. They know I stress individuality so it was only fitting that my hair expressed my authentic self. Of course I hear the “why don’t you just perm it” from my mom from time to time, but I smile.

Describe your hair (fine or coarse, thin or thick, highly porous, low, etc.)
My hair is very think and wavy. I got scared that my texture would change when I started using color but it didn’t. So I can play in with color!

What’s your current hair routine? How often do you wash, condition, and style? favorite products! Deets!
I am such a tomboy. Being natural is the easiest thing for me in the morning. I wash my hair every morning. It’s the only time I can comb it! I use Pantene ProV for color treated hair and I usually keep some in it to make it soft. I put Mayonnaise conditioning to my scalp and use low heat on my blower for a couple of minutes to dry it a bit. Let the rest air dryer and let my hair take on a mind of its own.

How do you maintain your hair at night?
Now this is want I need help with! I have the worst bed head in the morning. I just put it in a bun and night night!

How do you maintain healthy length?
I am blessed to have hair that grows at a great rate. The longer it gets the wavier, but I like it curlier. So I keep it cut to my neck.

What’s the best thing about being curly?
It’s just so easy to maintain. I love that I don’t look like everybody else. It is empowering to actually be in love with who you are. From my roots to tips, it’s all mine! God gave it to me so if He thinks is beautiful and right for me, why shouldn’t I.

It’s honest, raw, and transparent. I’ve been friends with Raheem Devaughn for a long time, so to finally collaborate on a song feels great. When I played the record for him, he fell in love with it and instantly added his parts; which took the song to another level,” say’s the David Found His Slingshot author in a exclusive statement to Medium Creative Agency.
