Omar Wilson is no stranger to the music scene and has been performing in NYC and CT clubs for over a decade having opened for artists like Boys II Men and The Neville Brothers. Growing up in Norwalk CT Omar’s influences included Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Lauren Hill, Mary J Blige and old-time soul acts like the Delfonics. His music speaks to his own personal experiences growing up in an urban environment bridging the gap between Hip Hop and Soul.

Video:

Growing up 30 minutes from New York City, church members at the Calvary Baptist Church in his hometown of Norwalk noticed his ability to have a spiritual impact through his singing at the age of only 7. While performing regularly back home in New York, fans gravitated towards his unique, gritty vocals. It was at that point that Omar realized what he was born to do, Soul Music. Omar was a 3 time Apollo winner since 2007 and was named Best R&B Male of the Year for both 2008 and 2009 at the Underground Music Awards held at BB Kings in NYC.

Through his journey and struggles Omar has finally come to understand his role as one of the industry’s top new Soul singers. He has recorded with Multi-Platinum selling artist Angie Stone and DMX featuring them on songs he wrote. The track he recorded with Miss. Stone was called ‘Get to Know You Better.’ Angie Stone was quoted as saying “Working with Omar Wilson came naturally and he is one to watch!” DMX is one of the only rappers to have 5 consecutive albums go number 1 on the Billboards and rarely has recorded with singers. Omar and DMX have recently released a single called ‘Faith’ and they connected on the track instantaneously which is audibly tangible.

Omar is set to perform on July 16, 2015 at Alive@5 in Stamford CT once more opening for Boys II Men with a full band including background singers. The show starts at 5pm and Omar hits the stage at 6pm. He is also scheduled to record later this summer with legendary producer Boo Mitchell in Royal Studios in Memphis with a full 12-piece band. Royal Studios is where Al Green records all his music with Boo’s father Willie Mitchell. Boo looks to carry on the tradition of changing the history of Soul and R & B by working with Omar to write and produce tracks due out later this year.

Save the date because April 26 comes the latest project The Coldest. Skilla Baby is poised for the announcement by unveiling a brand new single Free Big Meech. Produced by MIA JayC and Lee Choppn, this single hinges on tense synths and punchy 808s, while Skilla Baby unleashes a vital verbal flurry. Paving a lane to the forefront of the game at high-speed, rising Detroit rapper spoke on the project:

I took my time to put this project together… Sometimes, I feel like people try to place me in a box. The pressure of being a new artist, being successful, staying disciplined, and still clocking into the studio is very strenuous. But fun at the same time. As an artist, I’m known as the “Girl’s guy”. But I’ll never forget I come from the streets. As a real person, I feel so many emotions (mad, sad, happy, anxious, etc.). I say that to say, sorry for the wait but I wanted to put everything I feel into one project. Grab your coats…

Next up, the Vultures Eat The Most Tour takes him across the country on his most extensive jaunt yet. He also joins forces with New Orleans heavy-hitter Rob49 to co-headline the tour with tickets available here. This year is gearing up to be the coldest yet so pre-order your copy of the project here. It’s harder to wake up when you have mundane ish to do. Unveiling a brand new music video, Young France recruits UK Indie sensation Master Peace for huge new track Wake Up. Life becomes easier when you’re on the path to becoming a rockstar. The music video, shot in the UK, follows Young Franco and Master Peace individually, through a first-person lens as they undertake “mundane” daily activities until they then meet and begin to enjoy the iconic streets and taxis of London together. Franco spoke on the track:

Working with Master Peace has been an amazing experience. I found out about his project via his record “Eyes on You” and have wanted to work with him since that moment. I was writing a bunch of tracks in 2020. One of them being an early version of Wake Up, which I wrote with Elliot from Delta Riggs. I connected with Master Peace online and once I got to London last year, we smashed this in a couple of hours. His new record is fantastic and I’m super excited how this one turned out. Special mention to Danio from Husky Loops for some added production too.

Young Franco has started 2024 off with a bang, where he teamed up with UK rapper S1mba for the release of the funk laid hip hop track HITA. Wake Up follows a busy year of touring already, where he has done a sold out run of Europe with a string of sold-out shows in the USA. Young Franco has accumulated over 200 million streams and plans to continue to put Astralwerks Records on the map. Stream your copy of the single here and watch the dreamlike visual below.
