Raheem DeVaughn & DJ Jazzy Jeff Join Grxwn Fxlks On Their Debut Album ‘Volume 1: Independent’ @grxwnfxlks

The process of creating and releasing music in 2022 has a microwavable feel that is evidenced by new stars disappearing just as quickly as they rose. This is in large part to the role social media plays in society. On their debut album, Pittsburgh-based emcee/producer super-duo Grxwn Fxlks (Masai Turner & Akil Esoon), have made it their mission to make music that creates a lasting bond with Hip-Hop’s most disenfranchised demographic – adults. Setting up shop in New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta to collaborate with the greats and utilize world-renowned facilities, the duo conceptualized a project that is far cry from the all too repetitive subject matter found in the culture’s mainstream. The result is their crowning achievement titled Volume I: Independent.

“Instead of following trends or best practices, [Grxwn Fxlks] believe in creating products that the mainstream will find “edgy,” but which niche audiences will relate to in a deep way.” –Forbes Magazine

Volume I: Independent is a confluence of positive vibes, social awareness, cultural pride, and street wisdom. The magnificent turntable wizardry of 2-time Grammy Award-Winner DJ Jazzy Jeff is featured on the eponymous track “Grxwn Fxlks”. The uber soulful, 3-time Grammy Award-nominee Raheem DeVaughn assists with one of the album’s standouts “Magic” — a love letter to the magical qualities every good woman should be appreciated for. Veteran Bronx emcee, activist, and author Mysonne trades rhymes about the ills of street life with Masai on “Let’s Talk About It” over a healthy dose of boom-bap provided by Akil Esoon. Rhymesayers Entertainment’s singer/songwriter Nikki Jean contributes her charming cameo stylings on the closing track “One”.

As if the well-placed peppering of features wasn’t enough, Grxwn Fxlks collaborated with an A-List of legendary engineers to evolve their sound. Grammy Award-Winners Neal Pogue (Tyler the Creator, Outkast), Derek “MixedbyAli” Ali (Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller), Mike Bozzi (J Cole, Nas), Elton “L10MixedIt” Cheung (Chance The Rapper, Kehlani) and several notable others are credited throughout this project’s liner notes. A debut, independent album with the heavy hitters above is a testament to the group’s relationship-based approach to everything they do.

Grxwn Fxlks’ first single “Celebrate” has reached over 1 million streams since its release. The majority of those streams came from the 33–54-year old demographic – another anomaly for a Hip-Hop outfit releasing their first song. Thousands of comments, shares, and purchases later, Grxwn Fxlks has their proof of concept. Released via The Orchard – subsidiary of Sony Music, Volume I: Independent is shaping up to be a disrupter in the world of Hip Hop that can resonate with an audience that has been yearning for a distinct sound and message. Success in Hip-Hop may typically be a young man’s game, but all recent signs point to it being a Grxwn Fxlks’ reality.

Save the date because April 26 comes the latest project The Coldest. Skilla Baby is poised for the announcement by unveiling a brand new single Free Big Meech. Produced by MIA JayC and Lee Choppn, this single hinges on tense synths and punchy 808s, while Skilla Baby unleashes a vital verbal flurry. Paving a lane to the forefront of the game at high-speed, rising Detroit rapper spoke on the project:

I took my time to put this project together… Sometimes, I feel like people try to place me in a box. The pressure of being a new artist, being successful, staying disciplined, and still clocking into the studio is very strenuous. But fun at the same time. As an artist, I’m known as the “Girl’s guy”. But I’ll never forget I come from the streets. As a real person, I feel so many emotions (mad, sad, happy, anxious, etc.). I say that to say, sorry for the wait but I wanted to put everything I feel into one project. Grab your coats…

Next up, the Vultures Eat The Most Tour takes him across the country on his most extensive jaunt yet. He also joins forces with New Orleans heavy-hitter Rob49 to co-headline the tour with tickets available here. This year is gearing up to be the coldest yet so pre-order your copy of the project here. Frienimes and family, struggle and sabotage is nothing more than a Vicious Cycle. Poised about the release of his debut album Fab 5, breakout rapper/songwriter EmanuelDaProhet exposes the harsh realities of life on the streets with a resounding message of hope. Like many young people growing up in Jackson, Michigan, Emanuel saw few options to build a life beyond gun violence, drugs and dead ends. But getting shot proved to be a major wake-up call and the experience ultimately gave him a renewed sense of purpose. With his commitment to making faith-formed and culture-forward music, Emanuel spoke on the album saying:

I’m feeling really excited about this album because I put my all into it. I gave it everything I have and it’s about my real life. Also, it’s incorporated with a Michigan sound where I’m actually from with a lot of producers from my home state I’ve always wanted to work with.

On the hard-hitting single, EmanuelDaProphet and Rylo Rodriguez tap into their experiences coming up in Jackson, Michigan and Mobile, Alabama respectively. Trading verses, they vividly capture the pressures young men face growing up on the streets – and suggest there is a better way. You can also catch the likes of Lil Yachty and Rich The Kid on the album available here. Stay tuned for a lot of changes from the Tamla Records signee and connect with EmanuelDaProphet on Instagram, YouTube, and Tik Tok. Listen to the official audio below.

LunchMoney Lewis Drops New Song “Rain Or Shine”

Still riding “High” off his recent collaboration with Dylan Chambers and ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ GRAMMY win for Lil Durk’s “All My Life” featuring J. Cole earlier this year, Miami musician LunchMoney Lewis delivers “Rain or Shine.” Co-produced by JulianBeatz & BRIANXWHITE, “Rain or Shine” is a record about believing things will get better even when everything feels hopeless. In current times where there is so much pain in the world, Lewis wrote the Hip-Hop / R&B-influenced track to help us overcome life’s hurdles with love.

“In light of everything going on in the world, I’ve been in a very tough place creatively about what I wanna write about. Seeing so many innocent lives taken pushed me to make something that gives people hope in some fashion, rain or shine. We will continue to push love and love only, even in the face of darkness,” states the talented triple threat about the inspiration behind his latest leak.

Best known for his work with Dr. Luke as a producer, LunchMoney Lewis first broke into wide recognition as a rapper after appearing on the song “Trini Dem Girls” from Nicki Minaj’s 2014 album ‘The Pinkprint.’ He also co-wrote Jessie J’s single “Burnin’ Up” from her album ‘Sweet Talker,’ and Fifth Harmony’s single “Bo$$” from the album ‘Reflection.’ In 2015, he released his debut single as a solo artist, “Bills”, which peaked at 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number one on the ARIA Charts.
