American Music Awards 2015: Kendall Debuts Bangs, Kylie Wears Chain Metal – Your Jenner Style Update

Gigi Hadid wasn’t the only star to debut a new hair look at the American Music Awards. Her supermodel bestie Kendall Jenner also switched up her mane — she got bangs!

The model debuted chic fringe, which has editors in a real vs. faux debate. If she’s like her best friend, the look is probably faux, which means you’re looking at some very convincing clip-ins. (Read about Gigi’s magic bob here.) But if Kendall’s hair look is real, we’re definitely fans of her mod model vibe.

The 20-year-old star teamed her bangs with a black fur-embellished mini dress, accessorized with Neil Lane gold snake earrings and strappy sandals.

Kendall joined her sister Kylie on the carpet, who went for more of an understated style than we’re used to seeing her sport at big red carpet events. (Read: No colorful wigs!)

KarJenner mane master Jen Atkin created Kylie’s soft, laid-back look.

“Kylie’s stylist Monica Rose and I discussed keeping her natural texture and doing something soft to complement the overall design and cut of the dress,” Atkin tells PeopleStyle exclusively. “Aside from consulting with Kylie’s stylist, I worked with her makeup artist, Ariel Tejada, and we decided to bring out Kylie’s natural beauty, keeping her makeup light and pulling her hair back into a textured low pony with a modern twist on the french twist. It keeps her looking romantic while also being sophisticated and cool.”

First, Atkin added Rusk Volumizing Mousse to Kyie’s damp hair for textured before giving her a full blowout with a BaBylissPro “Rapido” Blowdryer. She then added natural waves by combining a curling iron and flat iron on different sections. She teased the hair with Rusk’s Deepshine dry shampoo, then gathered it into a low ponytail, twisted at one side. She secured the look with French hair pins and finished the style with Rusk Freezing Spray.

And while her hair style was tame, Kylie’s outfit was definitely more risky. The 18-year-old star dared to bare in a custom chain metal-embellished leather Bryan Hearns dress with cutout shoulders.

Kylie may have walked the carpet with sister Kendall, but she arrived with estranged boyfriend Tyga, who was the first to stand up for the star when she presented at the Award Show.
