Bangathemenace is someone you need to add to your playlist immediately! With the release of his debut EP, he’s on FIRE and is showing audiences what he’s truly capable of. He has an extremely unique voice that’s deep and personable — something that is rare and unheard in most music today. The Houston-based artist is just getting started, but he knows that he’s ready to take over the music game.
Prior to releasing his debut album ‘Big Bang Theory,’ Bangathemenace released two singles. “Etuk’s Interlude” and “Can’t Be A Menace” were two tracks that spoke for themselves in terms of introducing his sound as an artist. Both very versatile and distinctive, the two singles set the tone for what audiences could expect from him in the future.
We had the chance to interview with Bangathemenace to learn more about how he got his start in music.

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
I am born and raised in Houston, Texas but also branched off and lived in Denver, Colorado for three years.

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?
I go by Bangathemenace, due to my government name being Abanga Etuk. And I am of course a menace to society.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?
I began with poetry in middle school, and attempted to orchestrate a rap by 7th grade, and continued from there.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
Most definitely. I grew up in Acres home as a middle child of six. I’ve always had a balanced vibe entirely. I received knowledge and kicked it with my older siblings, and passed that same love and knowledge down to my younger ones.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
A serious energy form created with a parent from New York and another from Texas in the ’80s. Very old school with an accessorized new school sound.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

Nicki Minaj, Foxy Brown, Queen Latifah, Mc Lyte, Nas, Tupac, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, UGK, Houston’s entire music scene old & new school. Andre 3K, Busta Rhymes.
