Björk Shares E-mail Correspondence With Philosopher Timothy Morton
Back in March, New York City’s Museum of Modern Art hosted the Björk retrospective Björk, an exhibit that “chronicle[d] her career through sound, film, visuals, instruments, objects, costumes, and performance.” In association with the exhibit, publishing house Thames & Hudson created a book entitled Björk Archives, a highlight of which is the musician’s email correspondences with philosopher Timothy Morton (whose work frequently encompasses nature and ecology).
Today, Björk and Morton have shared excerpts of their conversations with Dazed. The emails, which are color-coded (Björk is red; Morton is black) digs deep into the trappings of Björk’s identity, from her relationships with nature, to her Icelandic heritage, to her connections with what she describes as “emotional chronology”. Speaking with Dazed regarding her dialogue with Morton, Björk offered this statement:
last year i reached out to the philosopher timothy morton to see if he would be interested to start a dialogue with me, to search for a definition of me and my friends’ stance in this world, which i felt his writing came very close to already. of course i’m still searching but this email chat of ours got pretty close and we shared a couple of coordinates trying to define what “ism” a pop musician from iceland would be …..

Notably, the event saw Dugg unite Detroit’s rival hip-hop factions, Doughboyz Cashout and Team Eastside, in a historic move to end the city’s East-West beef.
