Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair Hairstylist: Bruce Was One of the Sexiest Men Alive, I Wanted Caitlyn to Be a Sexy Woman

Caitlyn Jenner admitted that she was “worried” about how her final Vanity Fair portraits would turn out. But thanks to the people on set who shared the emotional, transformative days with her, she was thrilled with the result. Now, her glam squad is sharing some intimate details about Caitlyn’s life-changing debut.

“We looked to Cindy Crawford’s hair for inspiration, which is always glamorous but natural-looking,” famed hairstylist Oribe told Vanity Fair about creating Jenner’s look. “I wanted to create a glamorous look that I normally do for any woman, and sexuality was very important in this context. Bruce was one of the sexiest men alive, and I thought it was equally as important for Caitlyn to be a sexy woman.”

The sought-after celeb-loved mane master has worked with the Kardashians before, including on Kim Kardashian’s West latest cover shoot for Glamour. But he said collaborating on Caitlyn’s big moment transcends his other experiences. “This was such an important shoot for me in my career, because she’s about to change the world,” Oribe shared.

Makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo said he felt a certain amount of pressure to make Caitlyn look like her best possible self for the cover.

“I didn’t want her to look like a man in a dress. I wanted her to look like a beautiful 65-year-old woman,” Carrasquillo explained. “For me, I felt deeply responsible to represent what her goals were . . . She said, her whole life, looking in the mirror had different meaning and now, looking in the mirror (at the shoot), she felt more beautiful, and that was good enough for me.”

Carrasquillo shared his list of products used to get Caitlyn’s look (from Tom Ford foundation to Estée Lauder mascara — daughter Kendall is the spokesperson! — and Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder), noting that the memorable red lipstick in one of the photos is Nars’s famous “Jungle Red” shade.

Caitlyn also had a bold red mani to match, courtesy of nail guru Deborah Lippmann.

“The color red was a statement throughout, and ‘Lady Is a Tramp’ was it,” Lippmann said of the hue. “And of course Caitlyn laughed when I told her the name of the shade.”

Vanity Fair notes that Lippmann was the “first professional manicurist” to do Caitlyn’s nails, as the star only used to do them at home in private.

“She was so happy to be a girl, and she was so at ease,” Lippmann said. “Her attitude was very much, ‘Let’s do it!’”

The July issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands on June 9. What do you think of Caitlyn’s transformation? Which look was your favorite?
