Dear J’Kwon

jkwonDear J’Kwon, We can’t watch a Hollywood blockbuster film without hearing your catchy classic record “Tipsy” produced by the Trackboyz so obviously its common sense that with such a mega commercial hit you probably don’t ever have to put out any more music but that’s not the point.  The point is –not everyone is gifted to write hit records or produce them either.  You know how to do both. In interviews Kanye West says, “Tipsy” is his number one favorite songs and its one of ours too but actually we almost prefer Hood Hop cause it was so hard-hitting. We cant even listen to it without wanting to move and dance like the kids in St. Louis who always set the trends when it comes to dance. Perhaps Hood Hop was underrated because it was such a stark contrast from Tipsy but nevertheless we agree with Ye that you have had some tracks that were monstrous.  As a matter of fact, Hood Hop is one of those albums you can listen to from beginning to end.  This says a lot about your artistry.  We get you did Saturday Night Live at a time when they weren’t really booking rappers and no matter what there will always be film soundtracks waiting to add Hood Hop & Tipsy but that’s still isn’t the point.  Like Nicki’s ode to the old Nicki, Kwon please come back. We know those publishing checks are heavy but we think its time for you to step out of your comfort zone and give us some serious hits that our ears can live off of for the next couple of years.  When you reach such massive commercial success we understand its difficult for people to see you in a different light but you can always re-invent yourself when you’re as talented as you are. We want to know what you’ve been up to. What you’ve learned and the wisdom you have to share with artists coming out.  We want to know your story.  So when you’re tired of counting all that film publishing money get back to your musical core, the essence of your being.  Find that young kid inside who was immersed in passion beyond anyone’s understanding.  That kid that was driven to succeed because he wanted a way out. Find that hunger that has to be somewhere inside of you and execute.  Remember that boy inside of you that was fearless and ready to take over the world, let him guide you.  Turn every stone, scratch every surface, climb through every obstacle and rise. We’ll be waiting and here to support you oh and tell B. D whats up. Sincerely yours, every real hip hop writer.
