H&M x Balmain Show Revealed Clothing Looks Like The Real Thing

Olivier Rousteing said he wanted his debut collection with H&M to look like the real thing, and it definitely did.

In an elaborate entrance into the mid-range market, the 29-year-old had a show for his H&M collection in NYC’s Wall Street area Tuesday night. Using just about every “it” girl in the model game right now –Gigi, Kendall, Bella, Karlie, Jourdan– the talent showed a collection very similar to his Fall 2015 line.

Intricately beaded blouses, harem silk-like pants, brocade bell bottoms and wide gold emblazoned belts were just a few of the elements carried from one collection to the next. And speaking of bringing things from the past… a clear nod to the past included a performance from the Backstreet Boys– Howie, A.J., Nick, Brian and Kevin.

Aside from the hype, we’re thinking this may be H&M’s most successful collaboration yet, if not it’s most profitable, with items pricing as high as $500 for a blazer. Rousteing talked about the collaboration during a recent panel discussion:

As noted by Fashionista, “[Ten years ago] I would watch the fashion shows of the big brands and I wished I could afford this jacket, I wished I could be a part of this world and this universe,” he said. “Many of my followers are like, ‘I wish I could have that, I wish I could have that,’ so I tried to make sure that the aesthetic of what we pulled out was close to what they want.”

Job well done.
