How Gray Is Rob Lowe, Really? ‘Look, Rob Lowe’s Getting Grayer. His Characters Are Not’

Published

on

Who better than ageless wonder Rob Lowe to get involved in the world of celebrity beauty products? The chiseled Parks and Recreation star looks better at 51 than most guys in their twenties, which means his good genes are either being supplemented by his secret vampire tendencies (unlikely considering his tan), or he’s got one hell of a skin care regimen.

According to him, it’s the latter, and now he’s giving mortal men the chance to replicate the results he’s achieved after undergoing decades of world class grooming routines. We sat down with Lowe to talk about his new line, called Profile, and covered everything from going gray to the merits (or lack thereof) of men’s lipstick.

Have any of your celebrity friends tested the line?
I’ve sent it out to all my bros and the response has been great. Zac Efron is a big fan of the cleanser. It’s very early — I’m sure I’ll be getting more feedback. But it’s pretty much as I hoped. People are digging it.

What’s a product that’s not in the line people would be surprised you use?
Everything that I’m interested in or have used is either in the line or in development to come out in the next phases of the rollout. I would say our actual fragrance. I’m wearing it now. It’s not out yet but it’s great, I spent a lot of time getting it right. But hopefully this is going to be part of a larger conversation that I’m going to be having with men all over the country about looking their best

What’s the fragrance smell like?
It’s so hard to describe it. I didn’t want it to be safe. I wanted it to be a fragrance where you put it on and go, “Oh yeah, we’re doing this.” You’re going out, you’re going on a big date, you’re going to a big meeting. “Distinctive” comes to mind.

What’s one product every guy needs to have, even if he doesn’t use a lot of products?
If you were going to only buy one thing from my line, our little, tiny, throw it in your pocket, keep it with you at all times like a chap stick, undereye Revive. I use it all the time. It’s something we designed specifically for this line because there’s nothing out there like it. You wake up in the morning, you’ve had a long night, you’ve got the puffy eyes, wipe it under you eyes and instantly that is affected.

What’s one product you’d never create for a guy?
I’m not big on men’s lipstick. I don’t think we’ll be doing that!

Have you bottled your genes in this line? And if not what makes it so special?
What this line will do is help every guy be the best version of themselves — and I think everybody, myself included, wants to do that. There are days when I don’t look my best, and you need to do the things that this does. Have a great moisturizer, have a great cleanser. The fact that it’s nontoxic is very important to me.

What about your hair regimen? What goes into that?
We have hair stuff coming! I’m obsessed with hair. That’s my thing, that’s my jam. But it was really important to deal with first things first, and that is men’s skin. That’s the number one most important thing any man can do to look his best.

Okay, so how gray are you really?
I had one question [today] about my abs and one about my gray hair. And you know, one really counteracts the other. One makes me feel good about myself, one maybe not so good about myself. Look, Rob Lowe’s getting grayer, his characters are not.

What’s the most misunderstood thing about guys and skin care?
That they even have to worry about it. And I want to make it clear, I don’t come to this naturally. I’m like any other dude. The only reason I know anything about the value of it is because people have been doing it for me since I was 15 years old. I’m 51 now. There’s a reason I look the way I look. Sure, some of it’s genetics, but not all of it. There are a lot of guys you look at who are quite gorgeous in their twenties who look like s— now. And the reason is I’ve been taking care of my skin. And it’s not hard to do, but most men are not doing it, or they’re not doing it properly.

How have your kids reacted to the line?
They love it because part of this is inspired by them in that, as a father you shepherd them through, ‘Whew, you gotta start wearing deodorant, boy!’ to the first date where you’re like ‘Maybe a little less Axe body spray? A little less might be good?’ And so I’ve learned that they’re never too young to start learning the basics that will last a lifetime of skin care. My guys are both in college, and they’ve got the line and they’re using it, which is great. And they’re going to thank themselves when they’re my age.

Are you going to check out his product line?

Crafting a Timeless Sound

In discussing the significance of cultivating a timeless sound, Ace K touches on the crucial element of cadence and the anatomy of music. It’s not about following the trends but about creating a “vibe” that transcends them:

“Music is a feeling, my guys. So if you make something that make people feel good, make feel sad, what not, what not. I mean, you gonna be successful.”

This perspective pushes artists to look beyond the surface-level metrics of success and delve into the emotional resonance of their work—a principle that ensures longevity in a fast-paced industry.

The Emotional Impact of Music: Bridging Generations and Cultures

Ace K’s narrative underscores music as an emotional catalyst capable of cutting across generational lines. When a fan shares that his grandfather connected with Ace K’s track “slacking,” it reveals the profound nature of music’s reach.

“He said, ace k, I want to let you know that my granddad loves your song. And he plays that. He told. He said, but how do you put it? He got on my nerves with your song, but I love it because he’s understanding our culture.”

Ace K’s experience is an embodiment of such a phenomenon.

Harnessing a Personal Brand: Importance of Pre-Studio Preparation and Self-Value

Ace K sheds light on the pragmatic aspects of building a successful music career: meticulous preparation prior to studio sessions and a firm grasp of one’s market worth. He advises fellow artists to “make sure all my lyrics is right” before even setting foot in the studio—a discipline that minimizes wasted time and resources. Additionally, understanding one’s value is a sentiment Ace K passionately shares, as he refuses to sign with “no bull stuff company” underscoring the power of a marketable brand.

“Market each song like it. Your last song… Put your all into everything.”

Armed with this dual emphasis on preparation and self-worth, Ace K’s approach to the music business stands as a blueprint for artists striving to carve their own niche in the industry.

The Business of Music Personified

The business of music extends beyond the creation of melodies and lyrics; it’s also about presentation, perception, and the strategic maneuvering of one’s brand in a saturated market. Ace K’s philosophy highlights the importance of being both the face and the foundation of one’s business, ensuring credibility and appeal to potential audiences.

In the midst of a landscape where content is prolific, and attention spans are fleeting, Ace K champions the significance of leaving a mark, whether it be through emotive music or carefully curated branding. His experiences and insights contribute to an evolving doctrine for artists in any stage of their journey, advocating for integrity, preparation, and self-awareness. By adhering to these tenets, one not only fosters a promising career but creates a life’s work that resonates with authenticity and purpose
