Kendrick Lamar has been pining to get pop icon Janet Jackson to appear in the video for his track “Poetic Justice.” The song samples her 1993 hit “Anytime, Anyplace,” and the title references the movie she starred in of the same name. He openly expressed his desire to work with her and left a message for her to accept his invitation last fall.

“Yeah, she heard the message, so we’re still crossing our fingers right now,” Kendrick told MTV News. “She heard it, she heard it.”

“I appreciate you for that, for putting it out there like that, that was perfect,” he said, thanking MTV News. “That’s crazy to me to know that they’re aware of the music, but they’re actually listening to it and they can actually get something that I write on Twitter and everybody else around the world will spread it to them if I can’t reach it.”
