Lord Jamar: Hip-Hop Is "Not a Gay Music," "Make Your Own Genre" (@lordjamar)

Veteran rapper Lord Jamar has been in the urban news quite frequently as of late. When not performing with legendary New York hip-hop outfit Brand Nubian, Lord Jamar is perhaps best known for his highly controversial statements. And undoubtedly among his most talked about statements are the ones he’s made during exclusive interviews with VladTV. Jamar, who came in for an interview with VladTV back in February 2013, stirred up some drama when he shared his opinions on the gay community. In said interview, Jamar revealed that while he’s not a homophobe, he doesn’t agree with being gay.

Later in September 2013, Jamar once again sat down with VladTV too discuss his opinion on Macklemore, who he believes is “pushing a gay agenda.” Now, sitting down with XXL, the issue of homosexuality in hip-hop is brought back up in conversation, to which Jamar responds with saying hip-hop is “not gay music.” He also encourages people who like that kind of music to “make your own genre.”

During the interview, Jamar was also wonders how homosexuality can elevate the human species given that it cannot “create life.”

“I’m just trying to understand how man on man or woman on woman, which doesn’t create life, is actually an elevation for the species,” Jamar continued. “I understand the elevation of species as far as understanding and loving your fellow man no matter what. I get that and dig that. That’s a good thing. But, as far as the actual act, it’s just debatable. And at the same time, I have the right to not agree with it. I have the right as a human being to not agree with it.”
