Katy Perry is more than a pretty talented pop star, but a beauty STYLEBLAZER too. As a member of the Katy Kat fan club myself, I did a little happy dance when Katy Perry announced her new collection with CoverGirl.
She’s been a face of CoverGirl for years, so it looks like they finally uped their relationship status.
There was a lot of buzz when Katy announced her line with the mega beauty brand and even more excitement when Katy and her gal pals revealed the lipsticks at Coachella. She also slayed the black lipstick trend at the 2016 Met Gala with her buzz-worthy makeup look that included Perry Panther as her lippie.

The limited collection has finally trickled into Ulta and includes two mascaras and 11 demi matte lipsticks in shades that are quiet surprising for a drugstore brand.
Perry Panther is the most surprising of the bunch, since it’s a black lip color, but Cosmo Kitty (purple) is an unexpected shade too. She curated a collection that millennial trendsetters were bound to love.
This collection captured my attention because it stands out from other drugstore lip colors. For starters, the packaging is very clean with white components and black lettering on each item. It’s very stylish and modern, which instantly caught my eye.

The range of of 11 shades is also very diverse. From nudes, to reds, to off-beat shades, there’s something for everyone. Naturally I had to get my hands on Sphynx and Perry Panther, the lightest and darkest shades of the demi-matte collection.
The formula used in this collection is interesting. It’s called a demi-matte, which I feel could also be described as a satin. The nice thing about a matte that isn’t an ultra matte is that the formula glides on smoothly in a few strokes. It feels comfortable on the lips, without the drying effects of a matte. In fact, I would actually say that it’s moisturizing. But if you are looking for a flat matte or a formula that is long lasting, then you may want to skip over this collection. The colors I tried didn’t make it through my lunch, but I think the colors are worth the effort of reapplying.
This is a soft pink nude lip color. The color is very pretty and a versatile shade that can work on several skin tones. The lipstick feels nice on the lips and has a slight (very slight) shine. It offers medium coverage that will last a few hours before needing a touch up.
The goth girl in me couldn’t wait to swipe this lippie on my lips. Once I did, I was a little bummed to see that the color wasn’t as intense of a black as I had expected. I tried it again using a black liner as a base/liner and I was much happier with the results.
Overall, I think that these lip colors are fun to play with and make a great addition to my lipstick rotation. I personally wish they were a little more matte, but it’s nothing that a hint of setting powder can’t correct. At under $10 a pop, it’s worth stocking up on your favorite shades before they sell out!
