When you’re the daughter of fashion and runway royalty, does it matter really how old you are to start working? For 13-year-old Kaia Gerber, the offspring of legend Cindy Crawford, she improves her impressive Rolodex with a cover spot on Vogue Italia and a new deal with IMG.
Landing the opportunity in the same day, the teen, who has previously appeared in ads for Versace’s kids’ line in 2012 and, later, in Teen Vogue, was photographed by Steven Meisel for the upcoming issue. Despite being three years younger than Vogue Italia‘s approved youngest age for models, Gerber, herself, commented that the experience was “unreal” from her Instagram page.
Following in her famous mother’s footsteps, Gerber is featured in the editorial wearing menswear-inspired looks and a mohair leopard print coat. Simply crazy how genes work! The issue, which is dedicated to the topic of “age,” also features pieces on women young and old, including Frankie Rayder, Stockard Channing, and Jan de Villeneuve. This, plus the other moves that Gerber has done, it seems the next step for her would be to move into the modeling big leagues in a few years’ time.
That’s where IMG comes into play. Gerber signing with the wildly popular modeling agency means that she will be amongst rarefied air with Kate Moss, Karlie Kloss, and Joan Smalls. Definitely not bad company to be in at all! The teen sensation is currently listed under the agency’s ‘Girls’ roster, but if her work ethic and choice of projects are anything like her mother’s, we wouldn’t be shocked to see her commanding global attention with her looks.
