Two days before New York Fashion Week, there was no better time to launch the “I Love NY” t-shirt initiative. Produced by Century 21, Caravan Stylist Studio and The Carlton Hotel, the “I Love NY” t-shirt initiative features 32 top NY designers who have taken plain t-shirts and reimagined them with their one-of-a-kind, creative spins around the classic ‘I Love NY’ graphic. The Initiative benefits Save the Garment Center—a non-profit organization that aims to preserve New York’s Garment District and support factories, suppliers and designers through education and advocacy.
We got an up close look at the locally made tees in person last night, Feb. 4th, during the line’s launch held inside The Carlton. The t-shirts were displayed clothes-line-style across the hotel lobby, underscoring the program’s authenticity. At any given moment you could catch an attendee with head back, gaze cast up, surveying the distinct personality of each designer’s tee like Tabii Just’s fun geometric print and zip panel detail tee; Primary NY’s clean crop leather tee; and Don On’neill by THEI’s tank top, floor length gown.
Of her decision to participate in “I Love NY,” designer Angela George of Alice & Trixie had this to say:
“Well, because I truly do, I LOVE NY and any chance I get to shout it from the rooftops I will. To me, Century 21 is also synonymous with New York. Many a tourist’s trip is incomplete unless they have visited the bustling downtown flagship store. I was born and bred in this great state. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. The city is so dynamic and full of energy. I’m so lucky I get to design and produce my collection right in my own backyard. I get to give back to the city that has inspired me as a child and continues to inspire in all that I do. It’s the fashion capitol of the universe. It’s where dreams come true.”
If you’re dreaming of owning one of these custom “I Love NY” tees, they are currently available exclusively at Century 21′s website, c21stores.com, for $100 each. All proceeds will go to Save the Garment Center.
