Playing with textures in unconventional ways was the theme of Georgine Ratelband’s SS16 collection. The concept sounds simple, but in application, is a very vibrant thing.
It must be noted that the 26-year-old has worked with furs, spandex, Italian leathers and French laces in the past. This time, the contrast was more bold. More exploratory.
“I was interested in breaking the rules and perceptions, in regards to clothing,” the designer told StyleBlazer. “It was just playing with modern technology and employing that into my work. Nothing is what it seems. For example, there are coats that you may think are a regular fabric but we’ve put leather underneath it. Our leathers are treated very delicately, they are made very thin. Lots of fun things.”

A jean dress made of chiffon, fur sleeves on wool and lace dresses, knit applique, leather embroidery, gloves of spandex– it was trippy at sight. But somehow all tied together with funky platform heels made of PVC.
Always youthful and fun, models bounced down the runway to base happy ’70s grooves with colorful makeup and streaks of blue in their buns. Everything, down to their nails and Moscot shades, had personality.
“This collection is wearable, but it has lots of color and fun things. You can mix these things flawlessly into your wardrobe.”
If there was one thing lacking it was a sense of calm, as everything had a burst of interest, if not in color then in cut.
