#NYFW Runway Recap: Taoray Wang’s Dominating Woman

This season might have only marked Taoray Wang’s second spring presentation at New York Fashion Week, but by the look of her collection, the goal was inevitably clear. Taking inspiration from the epic film, “Out of Africa,” the international designer debuted a stylish replica of the movie’s heroine – who fought against dominance while elegantly performing her daily duties on a plantation.

Opening looks presented a redefined angle of tailoring, with sophisticated separates carrying a hint of feminine attitude. Streamlined skirts had thigh-high splits while boxy tops were cast in chic, exotic prints. And if you had any question what kind of woman Wang was catering to, her menswear-inspired fedoras, dark shades and slick-back buns were sure to paint the perfect picture: this was the runway for the impeccably confident fashion maven.

Structural details also managed to make a major impact with shift dresses featuring intricate cutouts and a range of separates designed with oversized sculptural sleeves – an interesting take on modern female strength.

Wang’s drive for spring 2016 was an evident one: to effortlessly marry opposing sides of the fashion spectrum.
