#PFW: Carven Fall 2014 Keeps Calm & Carries On With Winter Warmers

The Carven fall 2014 collection read similarly to the brand’s line for fall 2013 in that wool was predominant, and surfaces were left smooth keeping our attention on other things like silhouette and construction. The difference was that rounded, ballooning silhouettes were reigned in, with waists tapered. And while belts were big again for its fall 2014 runway, the tied belt was replaced by the traditional leg belt. The popular demure neutral and blush tones of last year brightened to fuchsia and saffron yellow, eventually deepening to rusted red and berry. Spliced, painterly prints and embroidered arrows also made an appearance on the catwalk in the form of dresses and jackets; other pieces featuring peek-a-boo print detailing on pockets and collars. The dismembered, collage style prints were reportedly a homage to artists like Blumenfeld, Picabia, and Man Ray known for their pictorial inquiries on the human body. That might explain the calmness we gathered from the collection, furthered by many of the models walking with one hand poised across their chest in a sort of solidarity.
