Replacements For Alexander Wang’s Balenciaga Departure Are Emerging

Ever since fashion’s perfect couple – Balenciaga and creative director, Alexander Wang, that is – announced their split, we’ve been keeping our eyes open as to who would take over the esteemed French house. And as much as we hate to admit it, it looks like the possible replacements are finally starting to emerge.

According to The New York Times, there are three likely successors that we should look out for – who all currently run labels, BTW. First up, is Julien Dossena – artistic director to Paco Rabanne – who has some history with the cherished brand during the Nicolas Ghesquière era. Joining him is Bouchra Jarrar, who not only is a veteran of Ghesquieère’s Balenciaga as well, but also designs her own collection of ready-to-wear and haute couture.

The last candidate, though carrying no past experience with the label, is Chitose Abe: the Tokyo-based designer of Sacai who is alumni of Comme des Garçon. With an aesthetic that grabs the attention of the sporty-edge maven, it’s a no-brainer that Abe could possibly continue Wang’s dominating aura (that we all love!) with future Balenciaga collections.

The news of the three possible replacements comes as Wang debuts his last collection with the luxury label during Paris Fashion Week. The designer closed out his short tenure with a sport-inspired lingerie range that was restricted to a color palette of creamy whites, followed by a final bow that included raised arms in the air and selfies of himself on the catwalk.

Nothing wrong with going out with a bang, right?!
