When your retiring Late Show host has already been famously flashed by Drew Barrymore, it would be awfully hard to top that experience to send him off in a memorable way. Leave it to Tina Fey to manage that one.

It all started innocuously enough: David Letterman complimented Tina Fey on her lovely blue sheath with sparkling black beaded details, a dress he said looked like “something Kate Middleton would show up in.” But Fey was having none of it.

“When you retire, this is it. I’m never going to wear a fancy dress on a talk show again,” she said. “It’s very hard work … the contraptions under here are almost medical. I’m terrible in heels. I dress up like this out of respect for you. What, I’m going to put a dress on for Jimmy [Fallon]? That’s creepy, he’s like my brother. Wear special underwear for James Corden? That’s not going to happen. The next time you see me, I’ll be playing charades in a Slanket.”
And to celebrate her last dressed-up talk show appearance, she “gifted” Letterman the dress by stepping out of it, revealing a full Spanx getup including a bodysuit printed with the words “Bye Dave” on the front and “#lastdressever” on the rear. She then executed a series of lunges and squats to show off the goods while Lettermen stood by, experiencing a mixture of horror and amusement (judging by his face anyway).
