Two More Reasons To Love Beauty Vloggers

Beauty vloggers rock some of the hottest makeup looks on the inter webs, but make no mistake; they’ve got life challenges just like the rest of us. Last week, UK vlogger Jordan Bone joined fellow comrades Erin Ford, Bella DeLune and more by revealing her own “beautiful struggle.”

In response to nasty comments made about the way she applies product, Jordan bravely told viewers in a special video that her unfixed method is the result of a car accident that left her a tetraplegic. Unable to move, open and close her hands, the makeup artist wanted to communicate just how challenging it can be to apply makeup on a daily basis.

In addition to showing unedited footage of her tutorials-like opening bottles and product with her mouth- the inspiring MUA offers words of encouragement to those who are intimidated by the social media space:

“There are so many struggles in my life. I mean, I can’t dress myself or do my own hair, so to be able to do my own makeup is my thing,” she says.

“I don’t know what you’re going through right now, but know that each day is worth living. Know that you’re worth so much. Know that you’re amazing.”

Beauty blogger and acid attack survivor Reshma is also making headlines for a tutorial that not only teaches the importance of lip care, but encourages viewers to sign the “Make Love Not Scars” petition, which calls to ban over the counter concentrated sulfuric acid in India.

According to the BBC, by way of Marie Claire, “there as many as 1,000 acid attacks in India every year, and almost 90% of these victims are women.”

Last year, Reshma was left with one eye, severe burns and disfigured skin after an alleged attack at the hands of her brother-in-law. With almost 1 million views and plenty of media coverage, we’d say this brave beauty is making major headway.

We’ve discussed the role of beauty bloggers in activism before, but showing a less than perfect version of one’s self is something everyone can do to encourage more positive interactions. We’re all human and in an era where young girls are heavily influenced by what they see online, it’s important to show that they’re not alone.

Sign the “Make Love Not Scars” petition here and watch Reshma’s video above.
