Update: Teacher Who Confessed on Video to Sex Abuse Charged

A video which surfaced on YouTube last month of a California teacher confessing to molesting her former student, has now prompted the authorities to take action against her.  40-year-old Andrea Cardosa will finally have to face the music as she was charged on Monday, February 3rd, with 5 counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child, along with 11 other counts of abuse.  The Riverside County District Attorney’s office slammed her with those 16 charges along with a $5 million warrant that has been put out for her arrest.

Ms. Cardosa confessed to sexually assaulting 28-year-Old Jamie Carrillo back when she was only 12, after Carrillo mustered up the courage to call her on the phone and confront her about what she did to her, all while recording the entire conversation on video.  The video went viral on YouTube and caused the authorities to take action.  Ms. Carrillo, who now has children of her own, decided to make the video because she believed that the statute of limitations prevented her from taking legal action since the incident occurred 13-years-ago.  However, Senior Public Information Specialist John Hall, explained that the five counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child which have been placed on Ms. Cardosa, all carry the potential sentence of life in prison, so therefore the statute of limitations is thwarted in this case.

The sexual assault on Jamie Carrillo took place from 1997 to 2001.  Ms. Cardosa is also under investigation for assaulting a second student in high school between the years of 2009 and 2010.
