Disney princesses, despite their strong personalities and female-empowering personas, have long been stigmatized by their unrealistic beauty standards. And while the debate will continue against Disney’s divas, ranging from the damsel in distress story line to the anime features, one artist is proving princesses can rock short hair, too.
Digital artist Roosa Karlsson, who has a Tumblr called The Nameless Doll, reimagined our favorite Disney princesses with bobs, lobs and completely shaved hairstyles. The inspiration behind the new haircuts: Ruby Rose, the new star of “OITNB” and crusader against female stereotypes.
On her Tumblr page, Karlsson gave Princess Tiana a Josephine Baker-esque pixie cut, Elsa got the Ruby Rose treatment and Snow White looked just as Evil-Queen-jealously-evoking with a clean, shaven head.
“Just imagine it: The Evil Queen is already making Snow White wear poor peasant clothing but it can’t disguise her beauty, ” Karlsson wrote. “So I imagine the queen also forcing her to shave her head every morning, in a desperate attempt to make her less beautiful. But alas, even without her hair, Snow is still considered the most beautiful girl in the land, inside and out.”
So if you are looking for some summer hair-spiration, look no further than your favorite Disney princesses:
