On Thursday, April 21 Prince was found dead in his Paisley Park residence at the age of 57.

Authorities say that he was battling with the flu and subsequently made an emergency flight landing last week.

The musician born Prince Rogers Nelson was an icon in more than one way. Aside from being a musical genius —knowing how to play 27 instruments— the Minneapolis-bred talent was a culture and style blazer. He came out the gate with a distinct look that resonated with women and men, globally.

Inspired by Stevie Wonder and Little Richard, the 57-year-old was often compared to his contemporary Michael Jackson. Known for his wavy hair, heavy black eyeliner, cinched jackets, feminine fabrics, and Victorian era bell sleeve shirts— here’s all the timeless fashion lessons we learned from Prince.
