I have a love-hate relationship with the fabulous world that is the beauty industry. This is pretty ironic coming from a makeup artist, but tis true.

On one hand, I am totally against the harsh unrealistic beauty standards that women spend millions of dollars and countless hours scouring over YouTube to finesse the latest strobing and contouring trends. I literally have to de-program women on a daily basis because of some outlandish makeup routine that they’ve learned from a tutorial that works for said beauty guru but not themselves.

As cliché as it sounds, beauty does come from within and some have been so consumed with making themselves over into the uniformed mate-lip-chiseled-brow beauty that they have neglected to discover what truly makes them unique whether it be on the inside or out. On the contrary, I adore the art of makeup! I feel that is it an avenue of self-expression that anyone with interest has every right to explore. And shame and damnation on anyone who feels the need to makeup shame their fellow man.

My personal mantra is “My face, my makeup!” In a nutshell, I think makeup is a personal choice that should be left up to whomever deems it necessary to wear. I only see a problem with it when it is used to hide ones inner beauty or pacify insecurities. It should empower, not mask. This like most life lessons, I had to grow into. When I was younger I still held beauty and cosmetics at high esteem, but for all the wrong reasons. And only after a lot of soul searching have settled into a much healthier place regarding self-image, standards of beauty, and makeup. That is why a random encounter I shared with a customer one day really resonated with me and left me feeling grateful to have been able to experience it.

Mobby Rosas – “Up To Sum” f/ Westside Boogie (Video) + “The 4th Step” (Album)

Published

The track “up to sum” is one of my favorite stories of how a collaboration came about. WESTSIDE BOOGIE had posted an open verse challenge for his song “Mood” on instagram and I picked it up. I’ve done a few open verse challenges before, to no favorable outcome other than just posting more content. I didn’t think much would come of this verse entry. I recorded my video audition for the song while at work, I was a server at a hotel restaurant in downtown LA, in uniform and all. I posted it and tagged WS Boogie and to my surprise, he DM’d me saying that he thought my verse was hard and if I ever wanted him on a project, he was down. I remember reading the message at work and being in shock. I had wanted to work with WS Boogie for years and had even tried to reach out in the past, to no response. I immediately hopped on the opportunity to.
