The famous red soles on the bottom of all Christian Louboutin soles made their way into the public eye all by way of a random red bottle of nail polish on someone’s desk. Or so the origin story goes. And now everything is coming full circle with Christian Louboutin’s new beauty line that’s debuting with its signature red color, Rouge Louboutin, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

Let’s be clear, like the shoes themselves, Christian Louboutin Beauté nail polish is undeniably a luxury item; each bottle is priced at $50, making it some of the most expensive polish in the industry. Each bottle is handmade and takes 22 weeks to make–with such attention to detail it’s a wonder the polish doesn’t cost in the hundreds of dollars.

Comprised of a collection that includes 30 different colors (three color families: Pop, Nude, and Noir), the only one on sale right now is the signature red, Rouge Louboutin, which is available online and in select Saks Fifth Avenue stores. (The remaining 30 colors will hit wide distribution at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, and select Sephora store on August 31.)

For the designer, beauty seemed the most obvious category for him to enter, he told WWD. As it says on his website, “The red sole was born from red nail polish. I am giving back to nails what the shoe took from the nails many years ago.”

Shop the Rouge Louboutin here now, and learn more about the collection at Women’s Wear Daily.
