Curl Talk: We Salute Maria Borges For Her Bold Fro!

This year was big for natural hair revelations.

Popular (and unlikely) celebrities like Jennifer Hudson, Cynthia Bailey and Sheryl Underwood revealed their natural hair to the world for the first time without their signature weaves. Truthfully, natural hair enthusiasts have longed for years to see their hair types represented on larger platforms.

Adding to the movement this week, was Angolan Victoria’s Secret model, Maria Borges.

This year Maria publicly ditched her “bombshell waves,” the bouncy and long extensions that have become synonymous with the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and decided to debut her short and natural ‘fro.

“I told my agent I wanted to walk in the Victoria’s Secret show with my natural hair,” the 23-year-old told Essence. “I was nervous, but I had to do it. When they said ‘yes’ I didn’t expect it, but I was so happy!”

Borges also tweeted,” “Are you ready for the 2015 @VictoriasSecret fashion show?! I’ll be rocking my Afro hair this year for THE show!”
