Dez Cadena—the veteran punk rocker who’s played in Black Flag, Misfits, FLAG, Redd Kross, and more— has been diagnosed with throat cancer, Billboard reports. According to a GoFundMe page set up to help pay Cadena’s medical bills, he’s finished going through “debilitating radiation treatments and is confident he will return to active performance again within a year”.

Cadena joined Black Flag in 1980 as a vocalist, switched to guitar when Rollins joined the band, and left following Damaged. He was a member of the Misfits from 2001 until earlier this year, when he announced that he’d left the band. He played in FLAG alongside former Black Flag members Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, and Descendents guitarist Stephen Egerton.
