The Spring 2016 Men’s Collections were a welcome change of pace. Not only because freakishly attractive men were paraded down the runway, but because for the first time in decades menswear overtly and unapologetically borrowed inspiration from womenswear.

Designers across the board added fabrics, patterns, and textures to their collections that we normally see on the more highly anticipated womenswear collections. Burberry Prorsum, Gucci, and No.21 added lots of lace accents while Givenchy, Balmain and Kenzo offered a masculine take on the jumpsuit. J.W. Anderson, Rick Owens, and Dries Van Noten donned sheer shirts on their runways, while Saint Laurent, Hermes and Richard James added beautiful floral suiting to the mix.

As we face the possibility of electing our first female president, and gender identification comes to the forefront, traditional gender roles are up for discussion. It only makes sense that we would see this play out on the runway as fashion continues to be a critical indication of the zeitgeist of the time.
