Emily Ratajkowski on Her Nude Scenes: I Was Never Aware of My Body Being Super-Sexual

Emily Ratajkowski has easily become one of PEOPLE Style’s most-fashionable faces this summer, and it seems everyone else agrees. InStyle U.K. tapped the model-turned-actress to front its October issue, where she spills on everything from her Parisian-inspired personal style to body image in the industry.

Ratajkowski’s red carpet M.O. may be sexy (think low necklines, really low necklines), but off-duty, the 24-year-old actress is drawn to simple silhouettes with a French twist.

“My go-to look is definitely wannabe French girl — feminine but just super, super cool,” she told the mag. “I love understated and retro.”

And the same can be said of her beauty routine, which she’s streamlined to just the basics because she prefers a cleaner, more natural makeup look.

“Hair and makeup always kill me,” she said. “I have really bug features and a lot of makeup artists get carried away and make me look like a drag queen.”

Ratajkowski also opened up about her on-screen nude scenes (from both Gone Girl and the “Blurred Lines” music video), explaining that she’s confused that people are still talking about her clothes-less scenes.

“It’s weird to me that the reaction to a woman’s naked body is so controversial in our culture,” she said. “My mum taught me to never [apologize] for my sexuality. My dad never made me feel embarrassed.”

She added: “I also don’t think I’ve ever had an awareness of my own body as being super-sexual. It was always just my body.”

But that doesn’t mean she’s 100 percent happy with her famous figure. In fact, there are parts of her body she wishes were a bit different.

“There are a few things I don’t like about my body, like that part of my thigh beneath my butt,” she said. “But my friends will say I’m crazy and I know it’s just my perception. You can’t beat up on yourself.”
