Eminem officially announced his return to music with the new single “Berzerk” on Monday night (August 26). The Rick Rubin-produced track will be on the rapper’s upcoming eighth album The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

Eminem’s fans (and Stans) went crazy on social media once the song was released last night with their reactions. Many applauded Em for bringing back a vintage, 1980s hip-hop sound. “Eminem’s new single ‘Berzerk’ dropped yesterday. Liking the 80s ‘Beastie Boys’ mixed with classic Eminem sound, ”

“Now this s—‘s about to kick off, this party looks wack/Let’s take it back to straight hip-hop and start it from scratch/I’m ’bout to bloody this track up, everybody get back/That’s why my pen needs a pad cause my rhymes on the raaag/Just like I did with addiction I’m ’bout to kick it,” rhymes Em over a beat enhanced by a sample from the Beastie Boys’ “Fight For Your Right (To Party).”

Others were not feeling the throwback flavor. “the fxck I’m supposed to do to this Em song, breakdance? ” asked John Gotty of TheSmokingSection. Some hoped that the song would be a teaser and not indicative of a full album. “Ok Berzerk wasn’t horrible. But I hope he’s just gettin us warmed up,” said Loco Cake.
