Father John Misty Accused of Copying Funny Or Die Sketch for "The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartment" Video

Last week, Father John Misty shared a video for “The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartment”. In the surreal clip, Tillman encounters a bummed-out version of himself at a bar and, after a romantic evening, hooks up with himself. According to Funny Or Die, it’s a concept that treads a little too closely to their 2011 sketch with Dave Franco, “Go Fuck Yourself”; Tillman, like the rest of us, is unsure if it’s all a big joke.

Funny Or Die’s post highlights several parallels between the two videos, including “ordering two drinks,” a “shot of two glasses,” a “cheers,” and “excited eyes.”

“Dave certainly took it a step further,” the post concludes, “but yeah. Same video. Watch the two full videos below and draw your own conclusions. Oh, and Father John Misty? If you’re reading this, go fuck yourself.”

Responding to the post on Twitter, Father John Misty wrote:

Whoa, I thought that was a joke!!!!

I guess this is real

I guess this is the time to confess that the song itself is lifted directly from that Funny or Die video

I seriously need to be Internet house-trained. This very tweet confirms it.
