In a controversial primetime Pakistan game show, a TV host is reportedly giving out abandoned babies to contestants. The host, Aamir Liaquat Hussain presented two bay girls recently to an unsuspecting couple. The game show airs for a long seven hours a day during the month of Ramadan.

“I was really shocked at first. I couldn’t believe we were being given this baby girl,” said Suriya Bilqees, a mother of a two-week old given to her on the show. “I was extremely happy.”

Hussain is described in Pakistan as a religious scholar, a TV megastar, and sometimes even a sex symbol.

“At Christmas there’s Santa Claus to give everyone gifts, it’s important for Christians. For us, Ramadan is a really special time so it’s really important to make people happy and reward them,” said Hussain.

On the bright side, at least the abandoned babies are being given homes.
