Here’s Why Jaden Smith Wore a Batman Suit to Kim and Kanye’s Wedding
Jaden Smith never ceases to amaze us with his daring, unconventional outfits. Last May, the 16-year-old wore a Batman suit to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding, and last month he recycled a similar look for his high school prom. And now, he’s finally revealing the mystery behind his superhero wardrobe (and, no, it wasn’t to be the “most Instagram-worthy” guest at the party, although he definitely won the Kimye photobooth!).
As you probably guessed, he first started dressing up like his favorite superheros when he was young, telling GQ he would wear a Batman or Spider-Man suit styled with duck boots and “never take them off.”
So for a wedding extravaganza as fashion-focused as Kimye’s, Smith, 16, chose his favorite outfit to be ready to protect wedding guests at any moment. “I wore the Batman suit to heighten my experience at the wedding and prom which was fun, but also at the wedding I felt as though I needed to protect everyone there and needed to have the proper gear to do so,” explains Smith. (The Kimye nuptials were very private, and it sounds like he valiantly took on the role of paparazzi-blocker for the night.)
And even though most formal occasions call for an actual suit, Smith styles his everyday wardrobe to feel like a superhero at all times. “I’m just expressing how I feel inside, which is really no particular way because everyday it changes how I feel about the world and myself, but I like wearing super drapey things so I can feel as though I’m a superhero, but don’t have to necessarily wear superhero costumes everyday.”

So it should come as no surprise that Smith credits his style icons to Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Superman and Kanye West. (Wonder if West’s next Yeezy for Adidas fashion show will involve long capes?)
