We live for a great collaboration, so you can imagine how thrilled we were to learn that the late, great artist Jean-Michel Basquiat has been selected as the partner for the second installment of the alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet capsule collection.

This is the second collection alice + olivia has produced in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s efforts to promote artists. The collection was shown as part of alice + olivia’s Resort 2017 season, and will be sold online and in stores in November. While this isn’t the first fashion collaboration the Basquiat Estate has taken part in, we are still feeling the art baby that has come from the ultra feminine alice + olivia aesthetic and the street element of Basquiat’s work.

Each year alice + olivia collaborates with a new artist to create a capsule collection to be sold online, and in stores in partnership with the CFDA. Fifty percent of the proceeds from selected items are donated to the CFDA.

Stacey Bendet, the brand’s CEO and Creative Director said, “Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of my favorite artists. This partnership is exciting for me as it is very reflective of my brand and our continued collaboration with artists. It is also wonderful to be able to raise funds for the CFDA and support their ongoing initiatives within our industry that develop new talent.”

Neo-expressionist painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat’s iconic crown along with many of his other signature images, are combined with the feminine aesthetic of the alice + olivia brand to give us one bad ass collection that we are dying to have. Bendet cites “Beat Bop” 1983, “Replicas” 1983, “Ascent” 1983, “In Italian” 1983, “Panel of Experts” 1982 and “Notary” 1983 are some of the artist’s famed works that as inspiration for the capsule collection. The collection includes apparel, accessories, and gifts, which makes sense given that he sold sweatshirts and postcards featuring his work in the early years of his career.
