We’re constantly updating our Last Night’s Look gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.

In case you haven’t noticed, dark, vampy lips are having a major moment this fall. Stars like Sienna Miller, Nina Dobrev and Ashley Benson have all been spotted sporting the seasonal trend. And Lily James is the latest celeb to try out the statement look, stepping out in the trend at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in London. We spoke with James’ makeup artist, Mary Greenwell, to break down the star’s glam look — including her exact lipstick shade! — so you, too, can try it at home!

The star’s makeup for the night, which Greenwell describes as “contemporary Hollywood glamour,” was very much based around James’ embellished tiered Erdem dress.

“The dress inspired the look, for sure,” she tells PeopleStyle. “It is so feminine with a Mexican/South American twist, so I wanted the makeup to be very simple, as the dress is wonderfully layered and quite complicated in design, but the colors of shades of black were actually very simple.”

So, drawing from the design’s dark silhouette, Greenwell decided on a statement lip to stand out against the dress’s bold print.

“I went with the dark rich lip, as it was the look I wanted — moody and defined — reflecting the classical Hollywood era, although, I do think it happens to be the look of the moment,” she says.

To get the “look of the moment,” the makeup pro first lined the star’s lips with M.A.C Cosmetics’ Pro Longwear lip Pencil in Dark Out, and then filled the rest of her pout in with Sensai Lipstick in Murasaki (No. 15) to create a creamy-textured and vibrant pop of color.

Keeping the lip the focal point of the star’s look, Greenwell opted for a neutral, almost bare eye moment. She added a hint of color to James’ eye by blending in a taupe eye shadow (YSL Beauty Couture Mono Eye Shadow in No. 5) to her lids only. Greenwell then amped up the star’s lashes with a few coats of Gucci Beauty Eye Opulent Volume Mascara to create a feathery effect.

“Lily has amazing eyes that can take any kind of makeup and the longest lashes that would be criminal to use faux lashes with,” Greenwell exclaims. “All of this to say she is a very versatile and a dreamy face to work with.” We couldn’t agree more.
