Lupita Nyong’o with Bangs? You’ve Got to See the Adorable Flashback Photo
Lupita Nyong’o is about to make your weekend. The Oscar-winning actress posted one of the best Flashback Friday photos we’ve seen in a long time. The star took to Instagram to share a middle-school-aged snap of herself rocking natural brows and wispy bangs — and it’s totally amazing.
“#fbf school days. Shout-out to full eyebrows and fringes/bangs at 14. #RusingaSchoolNairobi,” she captioned the adorable photo.
As it turns out, the star’s signature crop wasn’t initially by choice. Nyong’o previoulsy told Redbook that she shaved her head when she was 19 because of damage from chemical treatments.
“It wasn’t on a whim — I spent days thinking about [shaving it off] first,” she told Redbook. “Once I did it, it was very liberating, but I also felt very naked. When you feel the wind on your scalp, it’s like, ‘Oh, my God.’ But I’ve kept my hair short ever since.”
She added that adjusting to different hair looks was difficult for her. “As a teen, my hair caused me so much anxiety,” she said. “When I wasn’t happy with how my hair looked, I’d spend recess in the bathroom because I was so embarrassed.”
Now, the star lives by the motto, #shorthairdontcare and embraces her sheared style — and is often giving us hair accessory envy on the red carpet.
