(Mixtape) Dibi – “Hub City Love”
When most people hear about musical acts hailing from Compton, usually the imagery lodged in their cortex is reminiscent of N.W.A. or the countless gangster-rap acts who followed. Dibi, who initially had a knack for concocting raps to impress his peers, had no intention on changing the city’s status quo. “I wouldn’t dare break into a love ballad in the middle of a cypher,” says a joking Dibi. “Singing was something I did on my own time, not in front of anyone else.” But with the help of a prodding choir director, a reticent Dibi sang in front of strangers for the first time, at 12 years old. “I remember how proud my grandmother was,” he says. “That was something that propelled me to keep performing.” With a driven passion and unshakable confidence, the singer/songwriter is embracing his contrast to the city’s musical landscape and is primed to make the city of Compton proud.
With the latest Mixtape “Hub City Love” Dibi has teamed up with REAL 92.3 & founder of Young California Dj Carisma. and is giving the city a view from his standpoint.
