One in five women will be raped at some point in their lives, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.

Sexual assault is not an uncommon issue, but sadly many cases go unreported or victims are shamed into feeling guilty. Fortunately, many organizations combat this with their work and, in particular, National Denim Day— which falls on April 27.

The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault and Peace Over Violence are just two of the many organizations that work to educate survivors, prevent domestic violence, and raise money to support victims of sexual assault. On this day, women and men wear denim to show their allegiance to the cause and bring awareness to its frequency.
