Yes, that was Rick Springfield on Sunday’s new episode of True Detective. And, no, he wasn’t wearing a wig. Springfield cut his hair for the role, but before you put “Jessie’s Girl” on repeat and shed a few tears, we have some more news: He’s putting his locks up for sale.

The 65-year-old Grammy-winner was introduced on the HBO series last night as Doctor Pitlor, a therapist who was treating murder victim Ben Caspere, and to fit the foreboding sense of the character, he cut his famous strands (seriously, he’s had the same do since the ’80s) for the guest appearance.

“Before the show’s hairstylist clipped off five or six inches of my hair she said to me, ‘You know someone could make a lot of money from these clippings…’ After laughing that off, I thought perhaps we could raise some money for a worthy cause,” Springfield tells PEOPLE.

So the singer decided to put that money to good use and teamed up with his friend Linda Blair and her charity Worldheart Foundation to help save, shelter and find homes for hundreds of homeless dogs in need. He put his cut hair (packaged in an autographed container) up for sale on IfOnly.com for $750 with all proceeds benefitting Worldheart.

But that’s not all, you could also snag great items from his personal collection like an autographed pair of Chucks, a played and signed electric guitar (a Fender Squier Stratocaster) and lyric sheets from his smash hit “Jessie’s Girl.”

The store opens today and will run until July 31, so you might want to start reaching for your credit cards.
