We Want It All: Chichia’s SS15 Collection

Once again, we’ve ran across a collection hailing from the motherland filled with must haves.

Chichia is our new obsession, a London-based brand started by Christine Mhando. The fashion label has evolved from ankara ladened separates and graphic tees to cohesive collections, showcasing the diversity of the African aesthetic. While most of her pieces are made in Tanzania, there are a few made in the UK where the designer resides.

“Having left Africa at a young age, my memory of the place comes from regularly visiting Tanzania throughout my life, as well as observing the place and people from an outsider’s point of view,” Mhando told OkayAfrica when asked about her influences. “Tanzanians are people that very much take pride in their appearance and they make great use of color. My love of color definitely comes from being an African. I have an eternal love affair with prints. A great print for me means everything and can easily ignite inspiration for an entire collection. Travel is also a great source of inspiration for me as well as anything from photography, architecture and people-watching on the streets.”

Since starting the brand in 2007, Mhando has worked with print designer Oliver Goddard, Urban Outfitters and the British Fashion Council in creative capacities. In a nutshell, we can only expect more from the budding company. And we can’t wait…
